Brief Information Robert L. Johnson is an American businessman and media executive, best known as the founder of Black Entertainment Television (BET). BET became the first black-owned business to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Johnson also founded The RLJ Companies, a private equity firm, and was the first African-American majority owner of a major professional sports franchise with the Charlotte Bobcats.
